It should also be noted that having a storage location for gunpowder was a good idea from a safety standpoint as even a small amount of gunpowder could prove risky in a home due to open flames such as fireplaces or candles. Also, the work of two different Boy Scouts, in two different years, greatly aided in the restoration of the building and the site. What Black Hills vacation would be complete without seeing some of the area’s most famous sites? Not only do we offer the closest cabins to Mount Rushmore, which is only 4 miles away, but we’re also a 30 minute drive from Crazy Horse Memorial, and 45 minutes from Custer State Park.

This caused an alarm across the colonies, helped along by rumors of fighting and bloodshed. Armed colonists, thinking war had broken out, made their way to Cambridge, ready to fight. At the time, an estimated 50,000 armed colonists responded to this alarm across the colonies, according to Somerville, Past and Present. Parking is available at the nearby Dedham Community House pool parking lot or the adjacent boat landing area. Dedham was established in 1635 by order of the General Court and incorporated a year later.

It’s expected to take several more months of construction and somewhere around $20 million to finish the home and then obtain a certificate of occupancy. It’s true that the 21-bedroom property appeals to almost any hobby or interest. For the automotive enthusiast there’s a 30-car garage on the subterranean level, complete with two turntables for showcasing your most bragworthy marques. If you’re more of the fitness type, the third floor has its own gym and lap pool, plus a four-lane bowling alley, a hair salon and juice bar (great for post-workout smoothies and the like). Also on this level is the movie theater for cinephiles, the 10,000-bottle wine cellar for vino enthusiasts and the cigar lounge for those who’d rather just unwind with a stogie.

However, on that fateful night—the date is not known—the two lovebirds saw the girl's father approaching. The girl convinced the farmer to hide, and then she ran up the steps into the loft of the mill. In its early years as a windmill, a young farmer and the daughter of a wealthy man "held their tryst" at the site, according to Myths and Legends of Our Own Land, written in 1896 by Charles Skinner. With colonists on the brink of open revolt, bloodshed was narrowly avoided, but only for a few months. We're talking, of course, of the old Powder House in , the 30-foot-tall round stone tower that has stood at the site for over 300 years.

Small bronze sculptured monuments can be seen around Nathan Tufts Park referring to the site's past uses as a farm, a mill, storage for gunpowder, and even a pickle factory. Powder House Boulevard was created in 1900, extending northwest from Broadway at Nathan Tufts Park. According to a plaque placed at the center of the rotary island, the circle was dedicated in 1940 as the James A. Reynolds Traffic Circle, in honor of a Tufts College professor. Broadway was one of the earliest highways running through what would later become Somerville, originating in the 17th century. Originally called "Menotomie's Road," it ran from Charlestown to the settlement at Menotomy (present-day Arlington).

Massachusetts began storing gunpowder elsewhere and sold the land containing the Powder House to Peter Tufts in 1818. The estate, known as the Powder House Farm, was used as a farm and residence for the Tufts family for most of the 19th century, passing to Peter's heir, Nathan Tufts. Incidentally, another Tufts relative Charles Tufts donated the land across Broadway on the Somerville/Medford line to found Tufts College (now Tufts University). The college was founded in 1852, on Walnut Hill slightly to the north of present-day Powder House Square. The Dedham Powder House was constructed in 1766 for the town by a group of men including Captain David Fuller and Deacon Nathaniel Kingsbury. Made of brick and lime mortar, the small, sturdy structure measures eight feet square on the outside, and six feet high on the inside.

Several businesses thrive on or around Powder House Square, including restaurants, several small medical and dental practices, and a funeral home. In celebration of its 100th birthday, the City of Somerville (whose seal had previously depicted George Washington) created a new city seal, featuring the Powder House. The descendants of Nathan Tufts donated the Powder House Farm along with its namesake structure to the city in 1890, and from this Nathan Tufts Park was established in 1893.

By December 2016, The Maine Powder House was back up and running, supplying the same black powder products that put our name on the map. The city’s second oldest municipal building, the Powder House was listed in August on the National Register of Historic Places. The 240-square-foot structure is the only surviving octagonal-shaped powder house in New England. The 105,000-square-foot Bel Air megamansion, which took well over 10 years to build, has come across its share of logistical and legal problems over the years, but was finally sold at auction on March 3. While the original auction asking price was $295 million—itself a reduction from the $340 million listing price in 2021, and the $500 million price tag before that—the home ended up selling for $126 million. The new owner will actually shell out $141 million, which is the sale price plus the 12% buyer premium to Concierge Auctions.

Tracy's favourite way to sell is through auction - especially if there are specialist sales. Tracy recommends to always research before selling your items, as they might perform better on different platforms and you can also get an idea of how much they sell for. Pokemon cards have seen a "massive surge", Tracy says, with people paying "thousands and thousands of pounds" for good unopened sets. A quick look on toy auction site Vectis.co.uk shows a Corgi Toys "James Bond" Aston Martin estimated to sell for between £600 to £700 - while others are likely to fetch £50 to £60. "Toys are always going to be popular because they tap into nostalgia, our childhood memories," she says, explaining that adults like to buy the toys they used to have. Tracy explains that while trends change, vintage toys tend to stand the test of time.

On windy nights, his profanity was so filthy that "it became visible in the form of blue lights, dancing and exploding about the building," according to Myths and Legends. The girl's father, unable to see in the dark, had been standing on one of the millstones. When the girl pulled on the rope, the millstone moved; her father fell, and then his arm was crushed to a pulp under the mill's giant grinding device. And at that moment she heard a fall and an angry cry that quickly turned into the sound of great pain.

In 1861, Brigham Young sent 300 families to settle St. George, hoping to establish a base for warm-weather crops, such as cotton. He announced a temple for the community in 1871, with workers transitioning from the nearly completed and nearby St. George Tabernacle to start work at the temple site. No renovation for the state’s fourth pioneer-era temple, the Logan Utah Temple, have yet been announced. The new Orem Utah Temple is scheduled for its dedication on Jan. 21. Eight other Utah temples are under construction — Deseret Peak, Ephraim, Heber Valley, Layton, Lindon, Smithfield, Syracuse and Taylorsville. Like the St. George temple was, the Salt Lake and Manti temples have been under renovation, with reconstruction of the Provo Utah Temple to begin in late February 2024.

Repaving Around the St. George Utah Temple

The St. George Utah Temple is the longest operating temple of the Church and was the first built in Utah. The Yorba Linda California Temple will be the ninth temple built in California and the second built in Orange County, following the Newport Beach California Temple (2005). As with the Tumbers and their Latter-day Saint neighbors, a similar friendship has formed between the Church and the Yuba-Sutter community at large. In the early 1970s, before the Church owned the property, Mehar Tumber and his family, devout Sikhs, owned the land, where they grew peaches.

The St. George Utah Temple was originally dedicated in 1877 ahead of the Salt Lake Temple in Salt Lake City, which was also under construction in the Beehive State. And the St. George Utah Temple served as the Church’s first where the house of the Lord was reserved exclusively for temple worship, ordinance work and related meetings. The Kirtland Temple had been used for general worship meetings and even some civic meetings. The exterior and interior images and details of the renovations were first published Wednesday, Sept. 6, on ChurchofJesusChrist.org.

These decora-tive motifs have been preserved on the fourth floor and reconstructed in the instruction rooms of the second floor. The motifs were also used in other subtle ways in the temple, including door hardware and altars. The simple elegance of the furniture is intended to complement the restrained beauty of the interior architecture. The furniture design is inspired by the late neoclassical style popular during the mid-19th century — a style the pioneers of southern Utah produced in simpler vernacular versions of grained pine throughout the 19th century.

A few areas of the temple, such as the celestial and sealing rooms, have gold leaf accenting. Much of the existing planting and shrubbery was replaced or added to make the grounds lusher and greener and provide better views and photo opportunities of the temple itself. The doors are made of cherry wood, cherries being a significant agricultural product in the area.

Workers razed the west entrance to the temple that was added in the 1970s, exposing the old pioneer exterior. The same will be true inside, where floors altered in the 1970s are being redesigned to look more like the 1870s original. Modern workers covered support beams with steel, wrapped columns with fiberglass and drilled steel pipes called micropiles feet deep into the bedrock below the foundation. “The finishes will all be similar to the historic temple, so beautiful large archways and beautiful windows,” Kirby said. The St. George Utah Temple is scheduled to be rededicated on Dec. 10, 2023. Work has been underway for years on three of those pioneer-era temples — the Salt Lake Temple, Manti temple and St. George temple.

Installing the Balustrade on the St. George Utah Temple Annex

The public open house will run nearly two months, from Friday, Sept. 15, through Saturday, Nov. 11, excluding Sundays and Saturday, Sept. 30 for October 2023 general conference. The St. George Utah Temple, first dedicated on April 6, 1877, was rededicated on Dec. 10, 2023, by President Jeffrey R. Holland, a St. George native and acting president of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. Those videos are shown to small groups, usually in rooms in an adjacent meetinghouse prior to the visitors beginning the tour inside the temple.

It is used to accentuate the architecture at key points and connections. It signifies the natural beauty of the local area and the principles that contribute to that beauty. The presentation of the endowment was originally delivered by live acting in the Los Angeles California Temple. Utah is home to nearly 2.2 million Latter-day Saints, and the St. George Utah Temple is one of the Church’s 28 houses of the Lord in the state that are dedicated or under construction. The plans for the temple were announced a month after those of the extensive Salt Lake Temple and Temple Square renovation project, detailed in April 2019; but the Salt Lake Temple closed a month after the St. George temple did. The temple will be dedicated on Sunday, 13 October 2024 in multiple sessions.

The existing fountain from the 1970s renovation and addition (north entry) is replaced with a new quatrefoil-shaped fountain. There is also a new fountain in the east plaza, similar to the fountain on the north side. These fountains are built from concrete stem walls, painted on the exterior and tiled on the interior with a decorative design motif. The inner portion of the fountain has a bronzed multi-tiered water feature. The design was a coordinated effort between CRSA, MGB+A and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

In the new renovation this steel fence has been sand-blasted and painted a dark bronze to match the new site elements. The Founding Fathers of the United States of America appeared twice to Wilford Woodruff in the St. George Utah Temple asking why their temple work had yet not been performed on their behalves. A striking painting depicting this singular event hung for decades in the temple lobby (That We May be Redeemed by Harold I. Hopkinson).

This skylight will also employ decorative art glass at the room’s ceiling level. Due to the large amount of ground water on the site, the historic building (1877) required special effort to ensure a proper foundation. After packing the site with lava rock using a cannon as a pile driver, the first layer of foundation stones was laid using large blocks of locally quarried basalt.

While appraisers will overlook the “lived-in look” of a home, decluttering can make their job more accessible since the appraiser will take pictures and measurements during the appraisal process. Household items left in the way will detract from the appraiser’s ability to do their job. A bright and clean home appears more spacious and can help the appraiser get an accurate feel for the home’s condition. Some key areas that should be decluttered are the bedroom, kitchen, and living room since these areas are the most used in the home.

That way, both you and your lender know that the appraisal has been created without any bias. An appraisal differs from a home inspection, which is a much more in-depth process. In a home inspection, an inspector specifically looks for problems in the home and determines whether certain areas need repairs.

Curb appeal is your chance to make a good first impression on the home appraiser as well as potential buyers, so you’ll want to put your best foot forward. There are many budget-friendly curb appeal ideas to jazz up your home’s exterior appearance and it often takes less than a few hours to complete. From there, you can move on to more extensive curb appeal projects, such as touching up the outside paint to make your home’s exterior features stand out. The goal is to convey to the appraiser that your home is as well maintained on the exterior as it is on the interior. A home appraisal is almost always a requirement when purchasing a home with a mortgage.

If you haven’t yet made renovations to your home but plan to in the future, an appraisal can help you pinpoint improvements that will yield the biggest return on your investment. Review our list of what hurts a home appraisal for some of the top characteristics of your home that may reduce property value. A pre-listing appraisal isn’t always necessary to sell your home, and getting one doesn’t mean that a buyer’s lender won’t require a separate and independent appraisal before closing. Depending on the type of mortgage you’ve applied for, it may result in a more costly home appraisal. For example, mortgages that involve a federal agency, such as the Federal Housing Administration (FHA), require an appraisal to include additional safety inspections, resulting in a higher cost. As a rule of thumb, the larger the home, the more expensive the appraisal.

Accredited, professional team of experienced appraisers, researchers, and examiners trained to identify and value thousands of items. The actual amount you pay for a home appraisal can depend on where the property is located and how much time is required to complete the appraisal. Professional appraisals can be done for many items, including collectibles, antiques, or grandma's silver. Ideally, you'll want multiple valuations for an item from an accredited professional.

HomeAdvisor's Screening Process

The typical home appraisal cost is $500, according to the 2023 Appraisal Survey from the National Association of Realtors. However, actual costs can vary widely and depend on a number of factors, including the size of the home and the metropolitan area its located in. Home appraisals are different from home inspections because they are conducted to determine the value of a home for the benefit of the lender.

Preparing to Sell Your Home This Spring? Here are Some Things You Can Do Now to Help Attract Multiple Buyers

However, in most cases, it will take around a week – and maybe a little longer – for the appraiser to assess the property and prepare the report. Remember, a home appraisal is typically required if you’re financing a home purchase. Keep in mind that if the property is on a very large plot of land, the appraisal will cost more if the appraiser surveys the property lines to make sure the listed square acreage is correct. A home appraiser will take into account visible defects, such as a caved-in roof or an improperly functioning plumbing system, but an appraiser doesn’t search for specific problems.

The appraiser usually takes photos of the various parts of the home during the walk-through. The appraiser handles the home visit individually, but homeowners might be present, especially if they are still living in the home. As a seller, a low appraisal means you may have to lower your home’s price to get it sold. Holding out for an all-cash buyer who doesn't require an appraisal as a condition of completing the transaction is unlikely to work.

You really have to look at your percentage increase as compared to the citywide average percentage increase. If your increase is above the citywide average, you may see an increase in your taxes. If it's below that citywide average, you would see a decrease in your taxes. In 2023 we had a "maintenance" year, which meant we carried the values from 2022 forward to 2023. So, when the 2024 assessments came out, you're really seeing two years of increases because we didn't account for those increases in 2023.

Your mortgage lender will often recommend from a list of preferred appraisers, chosen for their track records as reliable, high-integrity professionals. As the buyer you’ll have to pay the appraisal cost, which usually is a fee added to your closing costs. However, your lender should inform you how much the appraisal will cost when you begin the pre-qualification process, so you’ll know just what to expect.

Compile a list of home improvements you have done, such as adding a new kitchen, HVAC system, or finishing your basement. Then provide this list to the appraiser with any supporting documentation – like receipts or invoices – to prove you made these upgrades. This will help the appraiser see the extra value you have added to the home, and it just may help them justify their final appraised value of the property.

A home appraisal is a value analysis of your property from a certified or licensed appraiser hired by the lender during the home purchase or refinance process. It will take the appraiser an average of seven to 10 days to look at the property, complete the research process, prepare the appraisal report and deliver it. When you’re buying a home and are under contract, the appraisal will be one of the first steps in the closing process.

Yes, if you believe a low appraisal is inaccurate, you can challenge it. Gather any supporting documentation, such as recent comparable sales or details on property improvements, to present to the lender. Consult with your real estate agent or a professional appraiser to guide you through the process of challenging a low appraisal.

However, keep in mind that you should prioritize items that clearly need to be addressed rather than stress over “nice to have” components. Replacing worn or dirty handles and hardware on drawers and doors can create a new look without a huge investment and is a great way to modernize your home. A fresh coat of paint can also go a long way in giving your rooms a clean and updated appearance. When selecting different paint color options, go with tried-and-true neutral colors, such as light grey, cream, or beige, to give your home a simple and sophisticated upgrade. The entry point to superhero and anti-hero movies and TV shows is straight and narrow, in the most literal sense. At least that's what Reddit, much of the fandom and even a number of directors and producers would seemingly have you believe. But one of the key pleasures of being part of the LGBTQ+ community is that, with just a little effort of imagination, almost anything can be made gay as hell, if it pleases you so. Millie Alcock and the rest of the first-generation Targaryens and Hightowers will, as far as HBO has indicated, not be returning this season in flashbacks. That doesn’t mean that we won’t see them again someday, but at least Paddy Considine does not have to jeopardize his own health for another stunning performance that the awards circuit decides to ignore. Before George R.R. Martin’s Westeros endured the Game of Thrones, Aegon the Conquerer set up his House of Targaryen to rule the Seven Kingdoms.

This was also the case when she was a contestant on Celebrity Big Brother UK. Helping to guide all of the festivities as host is Joel McHale. One of the actor's most notable roles was in the hit-sticom, Community, though he's also recently starred in Animal Control and appeared in a few episodes of The Bear. After all the gameplay and scheming the first winner of House of Villains is Bad Girls Club alum, Tanisha Thomas. So who helps lead the season 1 cast besides former White House staffer and The Apprentice alum Omarosa? Here's everything we know about House of Villains, including the rest of the cast.

The better the backstabbing, the more chance of being crowned America's ultimate super villain. "What if you put ten of reality television's most iconic and infamous super villains under one roof?" As far as elevator pitches go, the synopsis of House of Villains pretty much writes itself. Ten reality stars that were known as the villains in their respective shows will compete with other villains to be named “America’s Ultimate Supervillain” which includes a cash prize of $200,000. After assembling the best of reality TV's baddies for a hilarious and meta first season, E! 's reality competition series is back with an all new roster once again featuring some of the most iconic villains to have ever graced (or cursed) the small screen. This is a very well set up holiday house in a fantastic location, less than a minute from the Venice Canals.

Because, listen, there's nothing fruitier than a bunch of muscle-y dudes in tights BANG POW-ing each other, and Selina Kyle is undeniably more than a few lesbians' roots. This is a world dominated by the "yes, and" male-dominated sketch comedy scene, wherein women are often seen as less than, resigned to dance sexy, have boobs and laugh at guy’s jokes. Discovery legal team at bay with a parody label as the film's safety net, screenings picked back up in 2023 at Outfest LA, with select runs in U.S. theaters scheduled through June. But there's hope for an even bigger run, now that word is starting to spread.

Frank accepts, but stakes Lambert after he turns and overpowers Abigail before drinking her blood, enhancing his new abilities. He then tells Joey that he intends to turn her into a vampire under his control after biting her. During the fight, Abigail rescues Joey and the two team up, eventually managing to stake the inexperienced Frank.

However, as he's gotten married and started a family, he's managed to ruffle less feathers. With that being said, given some of Taylor's comments on social media about his former castmates on Vanderpump Rules, he has no problem stirring up a bit of trouble. For years, Jax Taylor served as the "bad guy" on Vanderpump Rules. During his time on the show, he got into an argument with nearly every single cast member and he was the poster boy for what not to do in a relationship, and even a friendship. Prior to the infamous Scandoval, Taylor got romantically involved with Kristen Doute, who was dating his best friend Tom Sandoval at the time.

The competition in the defensive backs room will be heavily monitored throughout the offseason and into training camp. Hoping to deactivate the security measures, Joey and Frank find the mansion's control room and run into Lambert, who is revealed as a vampire. Lambert explains he was turned by Abigail for betraying her father and offers to turn Frank to help him kill Abigail.

Interior, exterior photos of renovated St George Utah Temple

In November 2005, the Los Angeles California Temple closed for a seismic overhaul and renovation of the baptistry, reopening July 11, 2006—the same year as the 50th anniversary of the dedication of the temple. World War II delayed construction of the Los Angeles California Temple for many years. During that time, plans for the temple were revised to include a priesthood assembly room and to accommodate a unprecedented 300 patrons per session.

Even before the open-house tour with her family, Lydia had several times been at the St. George temple, helping place protective coverings on the shoes of guests entering the temple. The Moodys said they saw multiple evidences of open-house guests appreciating the purpose of the temples, witnessing families and friends pause in different rooms to talk about ordinances, covenants and instruction. They even saw something with guests on the grounds — both at the start and conclusion of tour sessions — in efforts to gather as families and friends. The news media gathered at the St. George Utah Temple in St. George, Utah, on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, for a briefing and tour of the sacred edifice. Invited guests will get a chance to go inside this week and walk through the many rooms, including the baptistry, instruction rooms and celestial room, where patrons can pray and feel closer to their Father in Heaven. In 1917, the north annex was enlarged, the first of more than 10 renovation or improvement projects on the St. George temple.

Previously, the temple ordinances had been passed on by memory and word of mouth since being revealed to Joseph Smith in Nauvoo, Illinois, in the 1840s. ChurchofJesusChristTemples.org shares construction news, photographs, maps, and interesting facts about the temples of the restored Church of Jesus Christ. The veil and celestial rooms historically featured murals that represented the room in the progressive sequence of creation, garden and world rooms.

The arched windows of the second level and the ordinance spaces depict the almond blossom, representing the agricultural industry of the area. The natural colors of the almond blossom are used against a backdrop of yellow fading to blue. The landscape architect is Loci, with local support from HLA Group of Sacramento, California. The landscape plan is inspired by the mediterranean climate of the Sacramento Valley and the area’s rich history and biodiversity. The design incorporates several mature native oak, redwood, and hackberry trees already on the site. Some prominent features are the 100-year-old olive trees transplanted from a local orchard, which will be arranged in groves both in front of and behind the temple.

Also, the section of 400 South on the temple’s north side has been changed from a two-way street to a pedestrian plaza. The St. George Utah Temple was extensively remodeled for over a year from 1937 to 1938. The lower hall was permanently divided into progressive-style muraled endowment rooms. The original tower of the St. George Utah Temple fell casualty to a lightning storm about a year after the dedication, leaving it badly damaged. A new tower was completed in 1883, taller and more majestic than the first.

The finished temple was dedicated on April 6, 1877, as the Church held its general conference that spring at the temple to coincide with the dedication. The free tour begins with a short video overview, followed by a walking tour through the temple. Comfortable shoes and modest dress are recommended, and the temple is wheelchair accessible. The tours for the Red Cliffs temple are expected to take about 40 minutes. The St. George temple underwent an extensive renovation nearly 50 years ago, then was rededicated in 1975 by President Spencer W. Kimball. The north and west additions to the temple were rebuilt to match the original architecture of the building.

“I have just been emotional all day thinking about what my forebears and their fellow citizens and fellow believers did in this community,” said Elder Matthew S. Holland, a General Authority Seventy. Information about tour reservations will be available later on reservations.ChurchofJesusChrist.org. The St. George Utah Temple holds a place in Church history in helping increase temple blessings available to Latter-day Saints and their ancestors.

These murals were removed in the 1970s and partially restored in the 1990s. New murals were commissioned that capture the rugged natural beauty of the southwest Utah landscape. These murals were painted by Linda Curley Christensen, Keith Bond and David Miekle, each of whom was responsible for one of the instruction rooms.

Remains Lighting in New York City manufactured the metal decorative lighting fixtures, which are made of cast bronze with a two-tone finish to match the building’s hardware finishes. Other decorative fixtures are period antiques that have been refurbished and rewired for use in the temple. All lighting fixtures are historically consistent with those found in the late 1800s. During the 1940s a two-inch layer of gunite (a mixture of cement, sand, and water) and steel reinforcing was applied to the temple’s exterior to hide cracks and eliminate future cracking. The new north addition has exterior walls created of precast concrete, which are covered with a light sand and white epoxy paint to match the color and texture of the historic building.

Where possible, historic wood doors were abated of their lead paint by a certified abatement company, Eagle Environmental Inc., then repainted and reinstalled in their original location. All the new doors are white painted wood to match the paneling and other details of the historic doors. The original hardware did not meet the current building code and was redesigned using historic hardware precedents. New cast bronze and porcelain hardware was manufactured by Rocky Mountain Hardware in Hailey, Idaho. The millwork found in the renovation matches the millwork from the pioneer era. The altars, recommend desks, cabinets and other new millwork are a carefully detailed reflection of what would have been built in 1877.

Most of the temple is painted in its original white to match the historic interiors, but a few rooms have a light-colored paint, such as the celestial room and the large sealing rooms located in the annex. The windows of the St. George Utah Temple have always had clear glass, similar to other temples such as Nauvoo, Kirtland, and Salt Lake. The original 1877 wood windows were determined to be insufficient for needed thermal performance and were replaced by new wood windows made by Re-View Windows Inc. in Kansas City, Missouri. The new windows match the historic profiles and details of the original windows but have been upgraded to incorporate thermally insulated triple panes of glass. A new skylight has also been provided in the bride’s room area, using the quatrefoil motif as the basis of design.

His widow, Surjit, and her children fondly remember Mehar as a man of great faith. “He was a gentlemen’s gentleman and with that, came his spirituality and his belief in God,” added his son, Ravi. Church President Russell M. Nelson announced plans in 2018 to build the 38,000-square-foot Feather River California Temple at 1470 Butte House Road in Yuba City. Decorative millwork is used on the altars, the recommend desk, the baptismal font, and the doors leading into ordinance spaces. This again comes from early Christian architecture and is an abstraction of the four-leaf clover. The interior lights are brass, with crystal being added in the ordinance spaces.

In the ordinance rooms, the shallow curve of the bowl is in opposition to the vault of the ceiling, representing two complementary elements that complete the circle. The temple grounds are enclosed with a six-foot-tall steel picket fence, powder-coated with a bronze color to match other metal fixtures on the site. Precast concrete pillars are located at the gated entrances to the grounds. The Feather River California Temple was originally announced as a temple planned for Yuba City, California.

President Jeffrey R. Holland, Acting President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, will rededicate the Church’s longest-operating house of the Lord in two sessions on Sunday, Dec. 10. The St. George temple has undergone multiple renovations since it was originally dedicated in 1877, according to the Church News. It will continue through Saturday, Nov. 11, excluding Sundays and Saturday, Sept. 30, due to general conference.

Colors were chosen to correspond with the fabrics and represent the local flora. The stone pattern throughout the building references other buildings in the area. The stone pattern around the baptistry is pulled from the art glass designs. A media day is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 11, with special-guest tours to follow through Thursday, Sept. 14.

The ceilings of the historic building were mostly replaced with new plaster and drywall because of the sagging wood floor structure above that required reinforcing. The ceilings of the north addition are painted drywall, with suspended ceiling tiles used in some areas, such as the dressing rooms. The profiles of crown moldings match historic moldings found in the temple. The moldings in the historic temple and the north addition are wood or glass-fiber-reinforced gypsum. On Jan. 1, 1877, sections of the temple — including the baptistry, a second-floor assembly room and an upper-level sealing room — were dedicated by Church leaders, with temple ordinances beginning within the next 10 days. The temple ordinances — old and new — were recorded, reviewed and approved over the next several months.

Gable and Lombard truly enjoyed their seclusion and country lifestyle. Yet they also knew how to make use of the ranch to enhance Gable's down-home image. Studio publicists photographed him mending fences or driving his tractor around the property. During interviews, he often went to the barn with reporters and milked a cow, or helped Lombard gather eggs in the henhouse. For a while, they even discussed the possibility of getting more chickens and selling "The King's Eggs." Few celebrities exemplified the movie community's shift to simpler lifestyles better than Clark Gable and Carole Lombard.
